E3MED is taking part in an innovative trial involving the transport of organs by drone.
On July 7, the Nantes University Hospital conducted a first-of-its-kind test flight in the Loire-Atlantique region: the delivery of a transplant organ by drone over a distance of approximately 40 kilometers.
This trial is part of a critical discussion within the field of transplantation. During a transplant, every minute counts. Reducing transport times helps limit organ ischemia and preserve organ quality as much as possible before transplantation.
For this test, a pig kidney was used as an experimental model. The organ was transported in a carrying case specially designed by E3MED to meet the requirements of air transport via drone. This solution protects the graft, maintains the required temperature conditions, and complies with the load limitations imposed by this innovative mode of transport.
This pilot project demonstrates the potential of new technologies to optimize medical logistics and support evolving transplant practices. Behind every time saved lies a major challenge: preserving organ viability and offering more opportunities to patients awaiting transplants.
